Preserving the Smile

So I have decided that I want to start wearing my retainer more.  Now for the young pups out there I am not sure if they even make kids wear these anymore.  My brother now wears some fancy pants clear things that keep his smile pretty - "vis a lines" or something or another. 

Well not me. 

I still have the same retainer from way back in junior year in high school when I finally got my braces off.  It's blue and has the silver wire around the front teeth.  I also still have glued into my bottom teeth my retainer - again the noticable silver wire.  Dentists has asked over the years if I want to take it out and I always so no.  There is something about going through braces again that haunts me.

So some may ask as to why I got this hair brained idea to start wearing my top retainer again...and my answer is....I have no idea.  I was giving the boys a bath tonight and while they were soaking I brushed and flossed my teeth (I'm a multie taker like most moms).  When I went to put away my toothbrush I saw this old friend of mine just sitting there and I thought to myself, "ah heck I wonder if that old thing still fits".  So I put it in and I could HARDLY get it on my teeth.  So I just wore it all night. and let me tell you that my teeth hurt like crazy right now.  So what does that tell me?  My teeth are obviously shifting away from my perfect smile.  

So there you have it.  Time to preserve that expensive smile my parents so lovingly gave me.  I just tell myself....grin and bear it.
